Western Australia uncorked in London
The Britain-Australia (Brit Oz) Society in partnership with the Government of Western Australia European Office hosted a tutored wine tasting in London on Wednesday 4 November, 2009.
WA Uncorked, sponsored by TNT Magazine, was held at Australia House and featured premium Western Australian wines from the Margaret River region in the State’s South West.
‘The Wine Detective’, Sarah Ahmed, who recently returned from three weeks of wine tasting in Western Australia, led the tasting event which showcased wines from UMAMU Estate, Evans and Tate, Woodside Valley Estate, Greedy Sheep, Vasse Felix and Woody Nook.
The Margaret River wine region has grown to become regarded as potentially one of the great wine-producing regions of the world and is one of Australia’s largest wine regions. Although the region contributes only three per cent of the country’s wine grapes it commands over 20 per cent of today’s premium wine export market.
The sold-out London event attracted almost 100 people and this success has prompted the Brit Oz Society and the Western Australian Government to explore opportunities to host further wine tasting events to showcase other Western Australian wines or regions.
The Britain-Australia (Brit Oz) Society is the foremost social networking society in the UK promoting positive relationships between Britain and Australia.
The Society provides a setting where members can enjoy the best that British culture has to offer to celebrate the rich historic, sporting, cultural, language and family links shared by Britain and Australia.
