Plan to recruit Doctors to WA

The Western Australian Government’s European Office will play a key role in a new campaign aimed at recruiting doctors to work in the southern inland of the state.
The campaign will run in the press and online in an effort to help address the lack of private General Practitioners in some regional areas.
The advertisements will run in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Canada where medical training is recognised by the Australian Medical Council’s Competent Authority Pathway.
The campaign is a part of an A$565 million plan to get doctors in to regional Western Australia.
The Health Minister Kim Hames says it’s a unique opportunity for medical professionals in the UK to apply and have the chance to move to beautiful Western Australia.
“A key focus of the first year will be to significantly increase the number of private GPs working in the area - which stretches from Kalbarri and Meekatharra in the north, to Laverton in the east, down to Esperance in the south-east,” Dr Hames said.
The WA Country Health Service will lead the recruitment campaign with the help of staff within the European office.
There are opportunities for qualified medical practitioners already working in private practice, or who wish to commence work in private practice and are seeking to work within rural Western Australia.
General practitioners wanting to move to Western Australia under the Southern Inland Health Initiative may also be eligible for:
- shift penalties, on call and call back allowances
- rental and travel subsidies
- professional development and study leave/ assistance
- employer superannuation contribution of nine per cent
- access to salary packaging options to the value of $17,000
- flexible leave and working arrangements
- location allowance
- immigration sponsorship
