Mandurah Ocean Marina scoops international award

Mandurah Ocean Marina, south of Perth, Western Australia (WA), has won an international PIANC Marina Excellence Design Jack Nichol Award (MEDA).
The award was presented to State Government land developer LandCorp at the International Council of Marine Industry Associations World Marinas Conference in Singapore.
Created in 2002 in memory of the late, renowned marina designer John M. ‘Jack’ Nichol, the award recognises excellence in the design of modern recreational boating facilities around the world. This is the first time the award has been won by an Australian marina.
Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the Mandurah Ocean Marina development was a benchmark for marina design, not only in WA, but on a global scale.
“Mandurah Ocean Marina now sits alongside the world’s best known and acclaimed marinas, and the award win is testament to the collaboration between LandCorp, the City of Mandurah, the Department of Planning and the Peel Development Commission that made a 30-year vision for a marina in Mandurah a reality,” Mr Grylls said.
“It also shows the significant opportunities that can be created from working closely with the private sector and the local community on priority State Government projects.”
Mr Grylls said stakeholder consultation had been vital to the marina’s development and had helped shape a true point of difference for the project and contributed to the economic sustainability, environmental and social outcomes.
Mandurah Ocean Marina has won more than 13 significant awards including the prestigious 2007 Urban Development Institute of Australia National Award for Excellence for a Masterplanned Development.
