Australian Film Festival to showcase new talent from WA.

Bran Nue Dae, a musical comedy that focuses on the indigenous experience in late 1960’s Broome will feature at the Australian Festival at the Barbican, London in March. Released in January, the film took AUD$2.6million its first week making it one of the most successful Australian films of recent times. Ian Booth, Chief Executive ScreenWest said, “It’s a gem of a film, one to see on the big screen.”

The film stars familiar faces from the Australian screen Ernie Dingo, Geoffrey Rush, Magda Szubanski, Deborah Mailman and Ningali Lawford-Wolf, along with newcomers Jessica Mauboy, Rocky McKenzie, Missy Higgins and Dan Sultan.

Other West Australian productions screening at the festival include Two Fists, One Heart, award-winning documentary My Asian Heart and the comedy Stone Bros.

The annual event now in it’s 16th year, and sponsored by Australian expat magazine TNT, screens feature and documentary films from Australian film makers. This year’s festival includes over twenty new feature productions including celebrated films such as AFI award winners, Samson and Delilah and The Balibo Conspiracy .The festival is presented in association with Screen Australia, Sydney and the Australian High Commission in London.

The Australian Film Festival runs from the 18 – 28 March at the Barbican Centre in London followed by a tour across the UK. Check the Barbican website for details.
