Improvements for Perth Hospitals

Two of Perth’s hospitals have recently had major improvements to ensure a quicker and more responsive service for patients, and a safer working environment for staff.

Royal Perth Hospital’s Emergency Department (RPH ED) has been modernised.

Health Minister Kim Hames said the A$5million expansion would improve patient flow.

Rockingham General Hospital’s A$116million redevelopment is moving closer to completion with the opening of a new two-storey ward block in September.

The extensive five-phase capital works program began in 2007, the number of operating theatres has doubled to four and the redevelopment will ultimately treble the number of beds available, completing the hospital’s transformation from a 71-bed district hospital into a 229-bed general hospital able to offer a comprehensive range of services.

In addition to these recent redevelopments, the A$317million expansion of Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) is now under way, including an increase in the public hospital services at Joondalup, together with Ramsay Health Care providing expanded facilities for private hospital patients.

The expanded hospital will be almost twice the size of the existing facility - by 2013, it will have 451 public beds compared with 280 at present.
