WHAT'S NEW

WA designer showcased in London

Full time Western Australian jewellery designer/maker, Felicity Peters, will be holding a solo exhibition of her designs in London early next year.

The exhibition will include a ring that she designed as a personal homage to the Jews and to the Polish people who died during the Second World War.

The Lest We Forget ring, along with her other designs, will be on display at the Lesley Craze Gallery, London, on February 4, 2010

Voyager Estate 2007 Shiraz better than Grange Hermitage

A Western Australian $32 bottle of Voyager Estate 2007 Shiraz has been voted better than a $550 bottle of Grange Hermitage in the respected Penguin 2010 Australian Wine Guide. It was rated 96 points, beating 2004 Penfolds Grange by 1 point.

The wine is described as having a lovely perfume with flavours of mulberry, blackberry spice with a hint of anise and well-balanced oak, and is a perfect accompaniment to venison or shanks.

This is the latest accolade in what has been an impressive year for Western Australian wines. Sandalford’s 2008 Margaret River Range shiraz won the best dry table red at the National Wine Show in Canberra, Brookland Valley’s 2008 chardonnay won trophies for the best wine, best white and best chardonnay at the Qantas Wine Show and was also named winery of the year in James Halliday’s 2009 Wine Companion. Knee Deep winery’s 2008 shiraz was also awarded best red and best shiraz at the Qantas Wine Show.

Home from home for Western Australia

Western Australia again took centre stage in Aberdeen mid November when, in association with the Aberdeen City Council and Scottish Development International, the Agent General for Western Australia, Kerry Sanderson addressed an audience of over 70 oil and gas sector company representatives keen to learn more about the business prospects in WA for SME’s who support oil and gas majors.

The three-hour seminar session was organised in response to the ongoing level of interest in the State, initially recognised by virtue of the capacity audience at a briefing given at the Offshore Europe 2009 conference in Aberdeen early September.
